You were a Robert Altman fan even before you knew it.
Remember the TV series Combat! starring Vic Morrow? It ran forever on Channel 7. I even heard a story, unconfirmed, to the effect that the West German government had to request that it finally be taken off the air because an entire generation was growing up with the notion of bad “Krauts”. The great Robert Altman, who died last month, directed ten episodes of the first season of Combat!, one of them so disturbing that he said it got him fired, although likely he was sacked for being difficult to work with. Genius is convulsive.
