What might’ve been
It was so hot yesterday that all I could think of was global warming, so I sat down and watched An Inconvenient Truth, the Oscar-winning documentary starring Al Gore. It’s an excellent film about greenhouse gases and the accelerated pace of climate change and all the terrible things that are happening because of governments’ and Big Business’s refusal to accept the awful truth and do something. I was processing this information with half a brain, because the other half was yelling, Al! You’re smart, funny, attractive, and able to explain complex issues in an engaging manner! Why couldn’t you be like this during the campaign for the 2000 US presidential election?! Why did you come on like a robot with no sense of humor? (Or did you acquire the sense of humor after you’d lost?) If you had been like this during the campaign, you would’ve won by such a wide margin that no amount of cheating and chads and whatnot could’ve prevented you from assuming the presidency! I’m not saying that 9-11 wouldn’t have happened or that the world would not be in deep shit if Gore had been president, but at least we’d know that the most powerful country on earth was led by an intelligent man! At the very least, a sentient creature!

“An Inconvenient Truth” is indeed a very compelling documentary. I never imagined that Al Gore could be such a persuasive fellow. However, I’ve watched the British TV special “The Great Global Warming Scandal” a few days ago which is a rebuttal of An Inconvenient Truth. It presents a very different picture of the global warming phenomenon. Apparently, in spite of what the mainstream media has presented, scientists are far from being unanimous about man-made CO2 being the culprit of global warming. CO2 comprises only about 0.04 percent of the atmosphere, and an even tinier percentage of that is contributed by man-made sources. Al Gore correctly pointed out though that there is a positive correlation between global temperatures and CO2 levels. But an alternative theory states that global temperatures influences the CO2 levels and not the other way around. It has something to with the fact that most of the CO2 exists in the ocean. There is another explanation for global warming and that is solar activity which was also presented in the documentary. Considering how massive the sun is, that is not so surprising.
Okay before I bore you guys to death, I would just like to say to be weary with politicians. Even when they act really sincere like Al Gore, you can’t really shake off that feeling of being conned. Peace!

i wonder what else Al Gore did after losing the elections aside from doing this movie. in the Oscars, i couldn’t believe how big this man has become, literally. but his sensibility makes him attractive still.

As the old saying goes, “If wishes were fishes, we’d all be pretty darn wet”, or something to that effect. Still, it’s the possibility of something better (i.e., Gore instead of Bush) that makes speculation so tantalizing. If hope weren’t so attractive a prospect, we would never have had five seasons of Sliders, seventy two books in the Bible, or James Yap visiting the Belo Medical Group offices for “treatment”.
Still, I’m glad that someone upgraded Robot Al’s core programming. There’s hope yet for Windows upgrades. :-)
