First Serb
Haha bad pun. Novak Djokovic wins the Australian Open men’s singles title, beating Jo-Wilfried Tsonga 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 7-6 (7-2). First player who is neither Federer nor Nadal to win a major since Safin in ’05.
Questions. Djokovic seems to run out of breath a lot, does he have asthma? Will Tsonga do well on other surfaces? Will the very talented Richard Gasquet ever realize tennis is a competitive sport? Will Baghdatis’s new hairstyle be luckier? Those tattoos, did you see Eastern Promises? Will Federer get a coach? What does Mirka think? Did Nadal’s legs fit in an economy-class seat? Will Rafa win his fourth title at Roland Garros? Is the field wide open now? I miss Goran Ivanisevic, what’s he doing these days?

According to the commentators of the game which we saw live here at Melbourne, Novak’s got a bit of cold since his game with Roger that’s why he’s breathing through his mouth as well. You could see him blowing his nose on his towels in between serves.

Djokovic has a history of “breathing” problems (http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/7074237.stm) — in quotation marks coz some players and reporters alleged that he sometimes used it as an excuse when he lost a match that he could or should have won. I think Gasquet will win a grand slam tournament before any of the active French players now that (some of) the weight of expectations is on Tsonga’s shoulders. I’m gonna bet that Federer will hire another Australian coach, possibly before the French Open, and it will be Darren Cahill. Heard that Nadal exchanged his business class ticket for a row of 3 economy seats so that his biceps could have their own seat as well.
