Better Than Oscar
This is why there can’t be a writers’ strike in the Philippines–there’s never a shortage of material. It grows on guava trees. Yesterday the television audience was riveted to the Senate hearing on the continuing ZTE broadband saga featuring the revelations of Rodolfo Lozada Jr. It’s a story that stretches over many genres: political thriller, conspiracy drama, police action, gangland drama, and comedy. And it’s got irony: a man agrees to toe the line, the same people he protects push him over the line.
The story combines elements from Academy Award-nominated movies. What would be a good title for the film?
a. There Will Be No Country For Atonement
b. There Will Be No Atonement For Old Men
c. No Country For Atonement, There Will Be Blood
d. I’m Not There, Sweeney Todd
What should be the tag line on the movie poster?
a. Moderate Greed Is The New Honesty.
b. There is no good or evil. Just moderate greed.
c. In the van no one can hear you scream.
d. Be disgusted. Be very disgusted.
e. But I don’t want to go to Cavite. Not that there’s anything wrong with Cavite.
f. Moderate: Verb or Adjective?

I’ll go with “I’m Not There, Sweeney Todd”. And “Be disgusted. Be very disgusted” is perfect for that.

What about “There Will Be Old Men’s Blood for Atonement for the Country”? Tagline: “Kickback is Normal Here.” Disgusting.

I would not be surprised if one of these days the headlines of our tabloids would scream: Lozada Tepok Na! That’s just it: history tends to repeat itself, from the Kuratong Baleleng gang in the 90s to that guy, whose name I cannot remember, who at the turn of the millennium was killed in Cavite over some government scandal about to be spilt. This Lozada brouhaha may be worthy of being made into a movie, but, ho-hum, boy it would friggingly suck & it would bore the Filipino audience to comatose! What else is new? Every pinoy knows how predictable the plot would be. A been there saw that! Anyhow, whatever tagline or movie title the story best deserves, so be it. But i disagree that it’s going to be “better than the Oscars”, specially if the movie is going to be produced & directed by that perennially sunglass-wearing, massacre loving husband & wife showbiz team.

How about, “Searching for the Lesser Evil”?

“Be disgusted. Be very disgusted†fits the tagline.
Senate hearings are the convenient refuge of whistleblowers like Lozada who, after being involved in anomalous transactions in government, spin tall tales and implicate persons in authority because of personal vendetta. We have had Mahusay, Ong, Zuce, Cam, etcetera before, and now, Lozada. Lozada’s brother was killed in a botched police operation and I understand his rage to settle the score. Yet he enriched himself and his kin by using his position in government by distributing thousands of hectares of public lands to relatives and influential families. He maintains a fleet of luxury cars; multi-million peso transactions brokered by his wife and he admits to being a practitioner of government’s “dysfunctional procurement system.†He sought the help of Senator Lacson, who in turn conveniently used Lozada for his political ends, before turning into a supposed whistleblower. If Lozada’s case is pot calling the kettle black, I say let the courts decide.

aS WHAt MIRRIAM had said, It is a squabble between individuals complaining about their kick backs.

I should think that a pot is in the best position to call a kettle black because of its affinity and familiarity with both the milieu and the blackness. An arinola calling a kettle black for example would be less accurate in its narrative.

Another “senadovela” which will benifit only the politicos who are planning to run again and again. Let’s give this bruhaha about like two weeks and then it will die its natural death. Where’s my remote control…
