The Earnestness of Being Important
I can only take so much earnestness, but I’ve been taking it from U2 for the last 25 years. Go see U2 3D at iMax in Maul of Asia. It’s the cheapest, best value U2 concert seat you’re ever going to buy, short of marrying Larry Mullen, Jr: 500 pesos and the band is literally in your face. On the huge screen you can see that Bono’s palm has a very long life line, The Edge looks young, Adam Clayton seems cheerful (that outfit), and Larry has veins popping out of his forearms. Also, Bono’s shoes define “Elevation”.
The set list: Vertigo, Beautiful Day, New Year’s Day, Sometimes You Can’t Make It On Your Own, Love and Peace Or Else, Sunday Bloody Sunday, Bullet The Blue Sky (with a bit of The Hands That Built America), Miss Sarajevo (Bono sang the Pavarotti parts), Pride, Where The Streets Have No Name, One, The Fly, With Or Without You. I told myself that if they played I Will Follow I would burst into tears, but they didn’t so my 3D glasses stayed unfogged.
(Rumor has it that U2 is playing in Manila in July—I’ll believe it when I see the band take the stage. They were supposed to do a concert here during the Rattle and Hum period. It didn’t happen.)

It’s only P350 at The Block at SM North EDSA. Same 3D goodness in a slightly smaller cinema.

Yey! I was there too last night (We were in the same N-row seats, hihi!). We thought we were late, but we came in a few seconds before it started (yeeeeey!). Hanggang ngayon kinikilig pa din ako! Grrrrabe, it’s the closest thing to watching them live (actually better than REAL front row seats). So even though most of the people in the IMAX theater were stoic, I just couldn’t contain my self and be (almost) hysterical (or else my heart will explode!). It felt soooo real that I had to reach out for my lighter and sing with them! I felt like I was in my elementary days again….even better, because this is MORE than just our VHS player and TV!!!! Feeling mo talaga kaya mo na silang halikan. And you’d almost be convinced that if you clapped your hands and scream “MORE!” they would really hear you.
I also realized that if you get to be that close to Bono, he actually looks a lot like Robin Williams…. at one point I even thought Bono would make some strange (and funny) foreign accents.
Kaya manood na kayong lahaaaat! Dali! Dali! Dali! (notice how many exclamation points I used in this whole comment? notice how looong this comment is? Ganun ka-grrrrabe!) Manuod na kayong lahat, biliiis! At magwala na kayo kung magwawala kayo, you’d enjoy it best that way, promise!!!
I’m definitely watching that again!
