Death and the Coffeemaker
On one hand my ten-year old Krups coffeemaker is about to go kaput. On the other hand I have a topic for my tech column. Could you recommend a good coffeemaker? A small one, say 4 cups, easy to operate and locally available. Not one of those ridiculously pricey Italian espresso makers that operate by nuclear fission. And I don’t want a French press. Thanks.

ahm, anything that’s within your price range at the sm appliance store? in the meantime, recommend dunking your grind in a takure filled with freshly boiled water. stir, wait 4 mins, then strain into preferred mug. it’s a mess but hmmm, it woiks.

Try looking for the mark Senseo……must be in Pinas by now. Oh, and it only works with coffee pads…

I have a Bialetti stovetop espresso pot. Works over the stove and churns out deep, rich and sweet espresso in under 6 minutes.
Low tech but travels very well. I take it on trips over a week when I want a taste of home.
