Our agents at work
Our Agents of World Domination are all over the world, transforming every corner into an outpost of the Philippines. This week in dispatches:
Deepa Paul is in Singapore.
“This is my office in Singapore. It’s a pre-WWII house (considered prehistoric by Singapore standards) on Oxley Road, walking distance from Orchard and a few houses down from Lee Kuan Yew’s house. Taxi drivers are struck dumb with fear/reverence/awe whenever I tell them to take me to work, and they go extra slow when passing by Uncle Lee’s house. He has gurkhas (specially trained Nepalese honor guards) stationed in front of his house who generally stop people from taking photos, walking on his side of the street, and coming any closer when his car is driving into/out of the garage. But I’m sure they’re trained to do more than that.”
Meg Francisco is in Bangkok.
“This is the Petropolitan hotel at Ozono, Sukhumvit Soi 39. Our poodle stays at this pet hotel whenever we all leave Bangkok (e.g. Christmas in Manila). The cats of the owner lounge in “Cat Societe” next door, along with the boarded cats.”
Rhea Codizal is in Dubai.
“This photo was taken between Souk Al Bahar & Dubai Mall in Downtown Dubai four days after the inauguration of Burj Khalifa, the highest building in the world…so far. I have been living and working in Dubai since 2006. The Filipino community is estimated the 4th largest ethnic group in the UAE.”
Rosemarie Ramos is in Berlin.
“Victoria, from her perch atop the Siegessaeule (Victory Column), has seen unification wars, love parades, and Barack Obama. I bring our visiting officials and other guests here for the requisite “picture-taking” and, when they’re up for it, take them up the 285 steps to the top to see the 27-foot Victoria up-close.”
Antonio is in Chicago.
“A surreal shot of Lake Michigan at a spot in Hyde Park, Chicago known as “The Point.” Taken with a vintage Zenit Soviet camera.”
Abegail Navarro is in New York.
Mime in Central Park.
These pictures are fantastic, send more.
