sayang….holiday’s only for students. The students who don’t know what EDSA People Power Revolution was or actually meant because they haven’t been born at the time.
When Libera, the UK-based vocal group, sang the Filipino classic Bayan Ko at the encore of their concert during the Philippines-UK Friendship Week last year, it instantly made me remember the original EDSA. I think it’s the best and most endearing version/arrangement of the song.
It really made me remember EDSA although I was just six years old at that time and miles away from Manila. I remember watching the events unfold on the TV. And even though I didn’t know what it really meant at that time somehow I knew something important was going on as my parents were there with me, glued in front of the television set.
And a lot of people there in the concert, I believe, also remember the events. A lot of people were in the verge of tears during the performance of Bayan Ko. I wonder if the students who will be enjoying the holiday feel the same way if they hear it.
