Thank you!
Thanks to Gilbert in General Santos City for sending me this book with the lovely note. Anything with Edward Gorey in it, I love. I’m sending you a book next week.
Photo: Edward Gorey lived with cats all his life.
Thank you to David Byrne and Todomundo for sending me a copy of Here Lies Love, the David Byrne and Fatboy Slim Imelda Marcos disco musical. It will compete with the neighborhood rendition of the Pasyon, which will no doubt incorporate the melody of Lady Gaga’s Pokerface (Hu hu hu hu hu das).
No thanks to DHL for hitting me with customs duties, etc to the tune of P1,498. On a gift. They won’t deliver unless you pay up. For some reason this never happens with FedEx. And after thrice reminding me that they require cash on delivery, they still didn’t deliver the package! This is why I always use FedEx.

FedEx slapped me with a P2,200 “tax” on a gift declared with US$100 value. I didn’t know you could tax gifts. The thing is, if you buy something online, the stores insert receipts in case you need to pay taxes in your territory. However, I’m thinking that these couriers are guessing that all items sent in from abroad must have been bought online, thus the instant taxation. But what if the items sent were hand-me-downs from relatives?

Hi Ms. Jessica! You’re welcome! :)
As I already have the complete set of Flip Magazine and all your books, I would appreciate it if you can send me an issue of Manila Envelope instead since this hasn’t reached the shores of Mindanao (yet). :)
