The case of the oven door shrapnel
It’s a good thing no one was leaning over the Elba oven when this happened.
KABLAM! I’m just glad Ige and Kevin didn’t get Elba oven door shrapnel. If Elba is going to sell exploding ovens, they should provide kevlar aprons and helmets.
Elba has refused to accept any responsibility for the exploding door of their product; they claim the explosion was a result of misuse. . .and that the user will have to pay for a replacement door. No apology. Nada.
After many, many calls to the Elba product service center, Kevin himself is in danger of blowing up.
Elba toast.

I think they should file a case with DTI. Let’s say that it may (not saying it is) actually be caused by the owner’s misuse … the fact that it happened should prompt the manufacturer ELBA to investigate what kind of misuse causes their product to explode.

Aw… you should sue them…

Thanks jumpnjoey. I have taken your advice and notified the DTI. The manual does say that the door should be left open when using the grill, but as you say, this should not cause a potentially life threatening explosion to occur.

Years ago, my neighbor got the same incident. Don’t know which oven was it but it got replaced. They literally threatened the company and to add to that they got someone in DTI. They should do that too. These things are soooo expensive.

No, no, no, no, no. It doesn’t matter whose fault it was. The fact is it exploded. Stupid f**king Elba would be pissing in their pants if this happened in a restaurant.
DTI!

It’s more like an implosion, I would guess. Hot oven air goes out, will go back in once cooled, and so if the cooks forget to keep the oven door open, then KABOOM – a lesson in the laws of physics.
If Elba is a respectable brand, then they should be aware that this is a common error, dangerous but common error, and that they should have a safety feature built-in. Palitan na nila kasi, at imbestigahan kung bakit pumalpak itong model nilang na ito. It’s probably cheaper this way than a law suit or a hospital bill.

I am curious:how could anyone possibly “misuse” an oven? Perhaps the owners used it to dry their clothes,or they put molotov bomb inside it to see how tough it is? Bottomline is,no one buys an oven expecting it to blow into pieces the moment it gets too hot–it’s an oven, for god’s sake,it is supposed to get very very hot. A lawsuit against the manufacturer is the wise thing to do here.
