I agree. It’s obvious that the masses, not necessarily the uneducated or by-their-own-volition ignorant, have mistaken celebrity-status as credibility, that the word of the popular is valid enough to be blindly swallowed, however it reeks of illogical grandstanding. True, we have the human right to free speech, but only to levels that could be considered humane to the rest of us.
Sadly mass media is doing exactly what any profiteering businessman would do, selling out to their intended audience, at the price of their own credibility.
I concur. Why are we wasting time on this issue? We have more pressing problems that deserve our undivided attention. Mommy Dionisia should just spend her time counting her shekels.
Times like these make me wish I am overseas, living in a country where things work.
Just curious, would you consider living overseas? And if so, where?
@scheherazade: Even if you do live overseas, you would still hear about the latest freaky fracas in Pinas. You’d be exasperated/dismayed/disgusted, but you wouldn’t be able to resist following everything on TFC, youtube, online PDI/phil.star.
You would wonder why being thousands of miles away still cannot distance you from the hysterical hilarity that is Philippine politics.
@polaris: i ran away from the philippines more than three years ago to get away from this kind of craziness.
since then, i only hear about the crazy circus that is philippine politics and showbiz, from time to time when i forget to put on my earphones while at work or commuting. and i thank god for this!
hear, hear. there’s even this segment in an early evening newscast where they keep on showing a clip of manny’s mom uttering the word ‘malaswa.’ some media outfits are not helping in the debate on the RH bill and others do not even understand the debate.
I totally agree. “Mommy D”, as what she’s fondly called, has the right to voice her opinion on the issue like any other Filipino citizen should; considering that this concerns us all. But as to seriously considering her opinion to be important as that to the lawmakers in our country is ridiculous. The media is sensationalizing an opinion which clearly does not weigh much on how the bill should turn out, it only makes her a laughing stock.
