8 hours in Antipolo
On Friday we attended the launch of My City, My SM at the SM mall in Masinag, Antipolo.
SM Masinag opened just a few weeks ago. We got there early so we had time to wander about. The mall is shiny and spacious, with giant eco-friendly asterisk-style fans on the ceiling to help the airconditioning (It’s very cold). We particularly like the vast supermarket, where much of the merchandise is displayed on tables so you can see everything, rather than stacked in tall shelves.
My City, My SM – Masinag highlights Antipolo as an arts capital. Fittingly, the centerpiece of the event was a reproduction of a familiar painting of Maytime in Antipolo by Fernando Amorsolo.
Also on display were works by well-known Antipolo-based artists. Antipolo has become a true art colony, being home to the Pinto Art Museum.
The endorsers of My City, My SM in Masinag are broadcaster Chiqui Roa-Puno and restaurateurs Susan and Florence Hassig of Vieux Chalet.
After the launch SM’s VP for Marketing Millie Dizon treated her hard-working team (They arrived at the venue on Thursday at 2 am to get it ready) to an excellent dinner at a favorite Antipolo restaurant, Vieux Chalet up in the hills. We had their famous cheese fondue,
(Mmmmm, fromage) sausages, pizza and cake.
We find that it’s easier to digest massive amounts of protein if there is a spectacular view of the city, like the one we had.
The proprietor’s daughter Autumn makes beautiful, reasonably-priced rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces, which we snapped up.
(I have the hands of a 5-year-old.)
The next My City, My SM event is at SM Calamba on June 10; it kicks off the celebration of the 150th birthday of Jose Rizal.
