Starring Novak Djokovic as Maria Sharapova
Oh all right. We have resisted for many years, but we are finally won over. How can we dislike a tennis player who does not take himself too seriously and is world number one? However we are not naming him father or uncle to our cats, an honor reserved for Ivanisevic, Safin and Federer (And the stuffed toy leopard who has been our constant travel companion since 1997 is named Guga).
The Djoker is kind of a tranny. This is even more bizarre than that parody of the Shakira music video with Rafael Nadal in which he played Shakira.
Thanks to Jackie for the alert!

AWARD!!! And I say this as a big fan of the Djoker-as-Shakira video, too.
Maybe it was the lighting and the camera angle in one shot, but for a moment there I also thought Nole was going to morph into Chloe Sevigny. Imagine the hilarity!

Hi Jessica,
I am a long-time fan of yours. I’ve been reading you since your Womenagerie days. I just wanted to tell you that “tranny” is considered a slur very much like “nigger” and should be used judiciously. To know more, you can read this: http://www.bilerico.com/2010/12/lets_talk_about_tranny_-_meanings.php
You can also check the media reference guide created by GLAAD here: http://www.glaad.org/reference/transgender
I also noticed in your article Notes on the Bakla Undead Part 2 on Interaksyon.com that you do not make a distinction between gay men and transgender people. Those are two distinct categories. In 4.1 of that piece you say “But we also know that many gay men who plan on getting sex-change operations choose to dress and live as women.”
If a person changes gender temporarily or permanently through clothing, hormones or surgery, that would make him or her trans. A gay man is a man whose gender identity is male and is attracted to other males. In the same vein, a gay woman or lesbian is a woman whose gender identity is female and is attracted to other women.
A transgender person is someone whose gender identity or gender expression is not traditionally associated with his or her sex assignment at birth regardless of sexual orientation. Transgender people include cross dressing, gender queer and transsexual people. They can be heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual or asexual.
If any of these confuse you, kindly get in touch with me at strapmanila@gmail.com and I’d be happy to explain these concepts further. Thank you!

PinayTG: Hi! Thank you for the correction and explanation. As you can tell, we are complete dolts at gender and identity issues. We will be more careful in the future. The column you refer to will be replaced today.
