The Daily Gazette # 1
by GNN, the Gaz News Network
Gaz Holgate arrived in Manila last night. His rugby team Kyuden Voltex in Fukuoka, Japan is on a two-week break, and he’s here on a working vacation.
He’s doing several photo shoots and interviews and appearing on television shows. Also he’s representing us at the Esquire launch because if we were a guy, we would totally look like that.
Gaz is doing volunteer work for two organizations that focus on kids: ChildHope Asia, which helps street children, and National Bookstore Foundation, which promotes literacy and readership awareness among Filipino children.
Our favorite Fil-Welsh professional athlete has just signed with talent manager Leo Dominguez. We know Leo and we know Gaz, and we think the combination is brilliant. Leo has steered the careers of some of today’s biggest stars, and not only does Gaz have star tattoos, we know The Force is strong in this one.
Gaz is holding a press conference at 11 am today in Quezon City, then he’s doing a portfolio shoot. Tune in every day for your Gaz fix.

Gaz factoids.
1. His first job was working on a farm when he was 12.
2. He graduated from the same prep school his father attended.
3. He was born in Wales and spent his formative years in the Philippines (Valle Verde), Singapore and Borneo (Kota Kinabalu).

Please keep this comment hidden. I know you will without having me saying so.
You and Gaz seem close. I know you and I aren’t, but let me try my luck. Could you ask what his stand on homosexuality is? (Oh no! Is it rude? Too inappropriate?)
How I came with my conclusion, you may ask me (fine, FB and Twitter ;) but he seems homophobic (and I’m judgmental). At the least, his repeated use of slurs is unintentional and without ill will.
I’m on the fence right now; but for sure, you have other gay readers who admire Gaz.

hayyyy…

ifrico, hope you don’t mind my posting your comment as you have raised important questions.
I can assure you that Gaz is not homophobic. Most of my friends are gay guys: I consider homophobia an attack on my friends, and an attack on my friends is an attack on me. Gaz had dinner with me and my gay friends last night and we had an excellent time.
As for the use of language that strikes you as homophobic, I can also assure you that no slur is intended. It is a strange habit among straight jocks: they call each other gay as a form of affection. Perhaps it is a humorous acknowledgement that if they were into guys they would be into each other. More likely no one has pointed out to them that their language is offensive (I myself do not like political correctness).
Since you have been concerned enough to point this out, I will point this out to him. Thanks.

Hi cheezmiss. Yeah, he’s giving show business a whack just to see if he likes it. The good thing is that he knows it’s not real. And there will be no singing and dancing.

Thank you very much. Kuya Anderson would approve.
And I apologize for ruining the mood.
October 4th, 2011 at 14:12
Oh My Gaz, parang ambangu-bango ni kuya!
(Ooops, did I just say that aloud?)
October 4th, 2011 at 17:00
Once again, as I mentioned to him on Twitter: EEEEEEEEEEE I love you Gaz!!! Welcome back to Manila!
@cheezemiss: I never thought of myself as a fangirl for an athlete (and the last athlete I’ve squee’d over was Alvin Patrimonio), but I will definitely buy whatever he’s selling! As long as he doesn’t start dating someone who just happens to endorse the same brand of… ah, who cares? GAZ! EEEEEEEE!!!!

Ejia: And he had been in transit for 12 hours! His flight from Japan to Manila included stops in Taipei and HK. (What??)

It is not possible to look that happy/great after half a day on a cramped plane! He is clearly more than human.
October 5th, 2011 at 10:05
Just a few more of these Gazette features, and I may jump ship from Terence Carol to Gaz. Must. Control. Self.

I’ve never been a fan of The Philly, but that video of him in Balakubak has got to be one of the funniest things I’ve watched all week. (This, and watching Noli De Castro read the news in Beckyspeak on Gandang Gabi Vice.)
Gaz would have been a great guest on Bubble Gang. Maybe he can show up in a cameo for one of Michael V’s video parodies?

#18 stellalehua — Gaz in Bubble Gang? >>> My thoughts exactly!
