The All Blacks are going to win anyway. Just making things more interesting. Why did it have to be Daniel Carter!
Thanks to Jaime for the alert.
WELLINGTON — It was the nightmare scenario that no one in New Zealand wanted to contemplate. But the unthinkable happened over the weekend when Daniel Carter tore his groin and was ruled out of the Rugby World Cup.
His absence is a massive blow, not only for his New Zealand teammates and All Blacks fans, but for the tournament, which has been robbed of one of its star attractions.
Yet as disappointed as he is, the superstar fly-half is already urging people to move on and back those All Blacks players left with the task of winning the World Cup for the first time since 1987.
There is no doubt that their job is that much harder now without the supremely talented Carter, who has guided the team so well for several years now.
He reads situations on the field superbly and knows when to kick, run or pass, along with whom to pass to. And he seems to have endless time to do it, even when under the greatest pressure.
It is an instinct he has honed over eight years and 85 games of international rugby for New Zealand — not to mention the countless other matches he has played for his Crusaders Super Rugby franchise and Canterbury provincial team — that will be missed the most by the All Blacks in the coming weeks. At the same time, Carter’s absence can only give a jolt in confidence to New Zealand’s opponents…
