Brewhuh’s Jeremy Renner News Bulletin #1: Car chase planned on Edsa-Pasay-Taft (Updated)
According to reports Jeremy Renner is slated to shoot scenes for The Bourne Legacy with Rachel Weisz on Edsa-Pasay Taft for three days starting January 14.

From ABS-CBN News: In an interview with ANC on Monday, Tolentino said the film’s production selected the Pasay Taft Rotonda as one of the locations for some of the movie’s car chase sequences.
“I think they selected Pasay Taft Rotonda. Magulo talaga ang area. So it’s about time that we redo the area because it will be shown worldwide. So it’s an eye-opener for us na ayusin namin ang Pasay-Taft Rotonda,” Tolentino said.
Reminders:
1. The filmmakers chose the Pasay Taft Rotonda area specifically because it’s “magulo” (chaotic) so if you suddenly refurbish everything they will shoot somewhere else.
2. So that’s what it takes to get urban renewal going: Announce that a major Hollywood production will be shot here. Nobody listens to the people who actually live in the area, but “Ano na lang ang sasabihin ng mga tao sa ibang bansa?? Nakakahiya!!”
3. Do refrain from painting your name on everything, viz. “This renovation is a project of officials congratulating themselves for doing things they were supposed to be doing with public funds in the first place.” We already sat through the looong “public service announcement” preceding every movie in the MMFF.*
4. We may be fans of Jeremy Renner and Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton), but we’re not thrilled at the thought of Even Worse Traffic on Edsa.
*Reader jouvs has pointed out that if Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago’s Anti-Epal Bill passes, we will be spared this kind of official…epal. The Anti-Epal Bill is the most concisely-named bill ever filed, so much more evocative than “Anti-Shameless Self-Promotion by a Government Official at Public Expense”.

Holy MFing shiznit! I predicted that the shoot was going to be in Tondo but Pasay sounds about right. Tutukan na naman ng baril ito! *praying that they’ll still be there by the 16th*
I just watched Bourne Ultimatum last night and noticed that a lot of action happens in train stations, airports, and rooftops of very tall buildings with glass windows. If this is the case, I won’t be surprised if a good part of the shoot happens at the MRT Taft station. Or any MRT station, for that matter. (TriNoMa?)

Something also tells me that we might be able to triangulate where they’ll be staying based on the locations cited. Triangulation lang, ha, in case na walang mag-confirm. Abangan!

My thoughts exactly!
They want to beautify Pasay Taft because all the world will see it. Este MMDA, please watch (or read) the Bourne series, puro habulan yan. It’s suppose to be chaotic and filled with people. Habulan dito, takbuhan doon. Gagawin niyong Bonifacio Global City yan in a week? Good luck!

“The filmmakers chose the Pasay Taft Rotonda area specifically because it’s ‘magulo’ (chaotic) so if you suddenly refurbish everything they will shoot somewhere else.”
THIS. Hear, hear!

And THIS:
“Gagawin niyong Bonifacio Global City yan in a week? Good luck!”
But noooo, they deliberately chose locations that were *meant* to be chaotic, especially the palengke locations and the NYC shoots. Otherwise, what’s the point?

Intramuros? Nothing special there. Jones Bridge?
January 3rd, 2012 at 23:12
EW! EW! EW!!! Tapos magbabanlaw sila sa El Nido! OOOOHHH!!! Kaysaya!

Nothing upsets me more than the thought of *more* traffic on EDSA. Any part of EDSA. Yeah yeah, forewarned is forearmed and all that, but… really, people?
All things considered: This movie better NOT suck. Sure, the Bourne series isn’t exactly Love in the Time of Cholera*, but I would throw my Dad’s entire collection of Ludlum paperbacks at the heads of everyone involved if they mess this one up badly.
*Off-topic: The fact that somebody actually made a film adaptation for this breaks my heart.

Mula sa isang palaging dumadaan sa EDSA Pasay Taft: Sa darating na pagsho-shooting ni Mr. Renner, we will be breathing the same Pasay City air :-)

The Cholera movie is hideous! Bardem’s hairstyle is even more hysterical than his No Country for Old Men bob. A must-see.
January 4th, 2012 at 12:43
pano maging extra ?
January 4th, 2012 at 13:17
Jessica, I just did a Google search on Bardem’s pictures from the Cholera adaptation, and the first few pics that turned up had him sporting that center-parted mess on his head. Yikes!

4. We may be fans of Jeremy Renner and Tony Gilroy (Michael Clayton), but we’re not thrilled at the thought of Even Worse Traffic on Edsa.
You nailed my thoughts exactly. I pass through Pasay Rotunda everyday to get to and from work and the traffic there is already bad as it is. I can only imagine that it would turn into one giant parking lot once shooting begins.

dear chairman tolentino:
MGA DAPAT GAWIN:
1. Huwag hahayaang umepal ang mga taga FAP, CBCP, si Manoling, magkaron man ng matitinding bayolenteng eksena, magkaron man ng sex scene o barilan sa gitna ng Baclaran.
2. Huwag magpinta ng kalburo
3. Yung mga lubak, was masyado malalalim.
January 4th, 2012 at 14:26
I hope nobody does a Claire Danes but if they’re shooting in Taft that’s forgivable.
January 4th, 2012 at 21:02
– THIS. (Not that it would stop me from snooping – este, “triangulating.”)
– Layuan mo sila, Tim Yap! Knowing what I know about both Jeremy and Ed, I think they would be at home jamming with the band-of-the-night at Saguijo. (Caveat: YouTube or it didn’t happen!)
– BWAHAHAHA! Nabilaukan yata ako sa katatawa.
Now if you’ll excuse me, mag-aayos lang ako ng buhok para sa headshot…
January 5th, 2012 at 01:03
Sorry if I missed this somewhere, but is the movie supposed to really be set in Manila, or is Manila supposed to be standing in for another location (ex. Bangkok, ala “Brokedown Palace”)?
January 5th, 2012 at 01:28
Good question. The Philippines has played Vietnam in Apocalypse Now, Born on the 4th of July, Platoon, etc.
Brew, we need the shooting script hahahaha!
January 5th, 2012 at 09:04
Jessica – Ahahaha!!! My thoughts exactly!
January 5th, 2012 at 11:43
Good luck stellahua. Balitaan mo kami pagkatapos ng audition.
January 6th, 2012 at 08:23
Hee! Thanks, turmukoy! ;) Kahit hindi ako makuhang extra, at least ginanahan na ulit ako mag-ayos at mag-makeup bago lumabas ng bahay. Ekanga ni Coco Chanel:
“I don’t understand how a woman can leave the house without fixing herself up a little – if only out of politeness. And then, you never know, maybe that’s the day she has a date with destiny. And it’s best to be as pretty as possible for destiny.”
***
The shooting script remains in “bantay-sarado” mode, however. There’s been practically no press about the movie from the locations in NYC and Saskatchewan. But hey, baka may mag-leak din…
January 8th, 2012 at 14:46
“Layuan mo sila, Tim Yap.” That’s funny.
