Ouch, I just bought a kindle but that is because I find the bookstores here inadequate. I can’t find all the books I need in a single store. When I do my shopping I have to go to 3 or more bookstores and I still end up lacking a book or two.
The graphic novel choices are very limited too. It is mostly superhero titles. I have been looking for copies of Craig Thompson’s books but I still can’t find them.
I found copies of Craig Thompson’s ‘Blankets’ and ‘Goodbye, Chunky Rice’ on Fully Booked High Street and an artsy bookshop in Cubao Expo (forgot the name). I bought my very first ebook reader, a Kindle, and I’ve recently downloaded books from the Man Booker Prize longlist.
it is a bit sad to think that physical books may disappear within our lifetime.
think about it.ebook prices are the same as their paper cousins. any publisher in their right mind would shift to the ebook version if they will have the same price. the publisher would save on printing & delivery costs.
Physical books won’t disappear within our lifetime (I plan to live long!) as long as lovers of physical books continue to buy them.
I don’t enjoy reading e-books — I simply prefer the look, feel, and smell of paper (and the occasional leather binding!). And I don’t mind paying a significant premium over the e-book price for a paper book.
Therefore, it would be stupid for publishers to ignore us physical book lovers.
