Bad reviews don’t hurt movies
We’ve just read Lisa Hanawalt’s illustrated review of War Horse. It’s lovely and hilarious, and if Steven Spielberg’s movie is half as lovely and hilarious as this review we will watch it the day it opens here.
Bad reviews don’t hurt movies. On the contrary bad reviews can drag unwilling viewers into the cinema. If the reviewers can enjoy themselves despite the incompetence of the filmmakers, the movie might be worth the time. Of course the viewers who tend to be drawn in by bad reviews are the ones who can think and watch at the same time.
Good reviews we tend to doubt, especially if they were composed with a thesaurus.
