Win a signed copy of Licensed to Pawn by the star of Pawn Stars
Pawn Stars is the History Channel’s hit series about the World-Famous Gold & Silver Pawn Shop and the three generations of the Harrison family who run it. All sorts of stuff winds up at the shop, from the usual watches and electronics to the rarities: handcuffs owned by Harry Houdini, a photo album signed by General Patton, a Picasso etching, a chair from the floor of the US Senate, a recalled poster for Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, and tons of others.
Pawn Stars star Rick Harrison has written a memoir called License to Pawn: Deals, Steals, and My Life at the Gold & Silver. (When will Old Man and Chumley write their memoirs, our friend Tina asked.) Every week we will post a question related to Pawn Stars, and the three best answers will each receive a signed copy of Licensed to Pawn. Yes, signed by Rick, with his business card enclosed.
This week’s question: What is your favorite episode of Pawn Stars and why do you like it?
Post your answers in Comments. The winners will be announced in 7 days.

…car buff that I am its the Cobra episode, as in Shelby Cobra, sold by a visitor to the store who got it at an auction of storage lockers ala Storage Wars …..this was just the entire aluminum chassis without the drive train…..the old man is who closed the deal offering $35K….since he saw how much money they could make from putting the car all together….with the recent death of Carrol Shelby the price of the Cobra just went through the roof

This particular episode/segment caught my attention: A woman visiting town came in hoping to sell a brooch shaped like a black widow spider for more or less USD 1,000; it belonged to either her mother or grandmother. Upon inspection, Rick identifies the jewelry as Faberge, to the surprise of the seller. He offered to buy it for USD15K, to which she agreed. I think he said during the segment that he didn’t want to take advantage of her unawareness so he gave a price that he think she’ll be OK with.
Gusto ko lang i-share: I also like watching Storage Wars…pinaka-OK si Barry since he goes there to find neat stuff.

This episode stuck on my memory because I can very well relate to it. I cannot remember the details of the transaction but the episode show Corey bought an Atari along with a boxful of game cartridges. I was thrilled while I was watching this episode because I used to play that exact same model the owner sold. Pacman, Combat, Obelix and those pirated 100 in 1 cartridges that I used to love when I was 5. My playtime curfew was Friday after class up to Sunday afternoon.
Then a feeling of regret somewhat hit me. Why I never kept the console, let alone the cartridges? When the atari broke down, my cartridges became frisbees and I remember the face of my neighbor (RIP) when a stray cartridge smashed his window. So there. What if I kept that atari? Oh, I am not the nostalgic kind. I might never have kept it anyway.
But the feeling of regret stuck because I might have earned selling that toy.

I easily got hooked on the show because of the title — Pawn Stars. I like the ring to it hahaha.
I haven’t completed 1 episode yet, but I saw one segment when this girl was selling her bacon and egg cooker. It was sooo cute. The Old Man loved it hehe… The toy was actually a pig chef who cooked bacon & eggs hehehe. PETA will have a field day over it hahaha!

That episode wherein they bought this guy’s room-full of of cowboy toys and Lone Range memorabilia for, what I think, a really cheap price. The guy agreed to the price, saying something like at some point he had to grow up and move on. (He was actually moving to another place.) Which had me thinking, will I ever sell my LOTR action figures when I get old? I haven’t even taken them out of their boxes.

That episode where this man sells them a pair of Houdini’s cuffs. HOLY, Houdini’s Cuffs! Then they brought in an expert who examined it (and the papers that came with it) and declared the cuffs authentic. Mother of God!
I’m not sure if it was worth a hundred grand or more, but those bastards bought it for so much less and the poor man accepted. I mean hello, he could have auctioned it off on ebay for more than its worth!
Don’t you love those cheapskates?

That episode where a man brought in a late-19th-century professional gambler’s toolkit, which belonged to gambler J.D. Borthwick. It included a set of weapons in one of the compartments, including a Colt Model 1862 revolver and a Joseph Allen & Sons bowie knife. It was awesome! As Rick says, “you never what’s going to walk through that door.”

I remember one episode where someone brought in Einstein’s book with some handwritten alchemy stuff on some pages of it. I can’t forget the look on Rick’s face. He really wanted the book and after someone confirmed that it’s really authentic, Rick was really happy that he bought it. I really love Pawn Stars :)

My favorite episode of Pawn Stars is the one where this guy tries to sell a holy relic from the first American Saint, Elizabeth Seton. First of all they couldn’t tell what the relic itself *was* – it was a bloody splotch preserved in a casing – plus, although it did come with a certificate authenticated by the Vatican, it was written in Latin. So they brought in a linguist to figure out what it was, and although which specific part of Saint Elizabeth the relic was wasn’t mentioned in the certificate, spookily enough it warned of hell to anyone who sold or bought the relic. So obviously Rick had to back off on that one.
It’s my favorite episode because I think it makes for such a surreal situation, having a religious curse on an object you own. Also I think acquiring an antique that came with a curse would make for an interesting episode of Pawn Stars. :D

the most memorable for me is when a customer brought in a Philippine weapon, the kris. I also love watching Rick negotiate and haggle for the price, he is the master.
