James Bond reviews his assets
On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the James Bond films, the producers took stock of their assets.
1. The character created by Ian Fleming.
2. Daniel Craig
3. Action, adventure, travel
4. The technology, developed by Q
5. Dame Judi Dench as M
6. Interesting villains
7. That theme music, which we’d always assumed was written by John Barry but was actually composed by Monty Norman, who has hauled people to court for saying otherwise. Apparently that tune was written for a musical based on the work of V.S. Naipaul. Weird collision—Naipaul writes about the effects of British colonialism; James Bond is its tool.
8. Sexy Bond girls
9. The theme song for the specific movie, e.g. A View To A Kill by Duran Duran

I could not help but crack up at the references to Quantum of Solace, “Diamonds Are ForevAH” and Javier Bardem’s bad hairdos. There may be some reason to believe that the silver Bentley which appears later in the movie (complete with ejector seat) could be taken as a meta-reference to Austin Powers.
Sam Mendes, all is forgiven.

I can’t wait to find out what you’d think of Ben Whishaw and the rest of the cast of Cloud Atlas when you get the chance to see it. Looking forward to that film review.
