The man may not be on the side of the angels…but he definitely has the voice of one..

I tried opening it in different tabs and playing one a few seconds after the other, like the site suggested. It was goosebumps-inducing.

JJ Abrams : “Rather than answer anything that would give away the fun of the movie, I would say that the character that Benedict plays, he brings such an incredible power to it,” Abrams said, letting fans continue their speculations on who Cumberbatch is actually playing. “His voice alone, I actually as a joke should have had him read the lunch menu,” he added with a laugh.
If you want more of the Cumbervoice then I suggest you give a listen to BBC 1’s radio drama production of Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere. In Sherlock he’s no angel he says but here he plays the Angel Islington. There are 6 episodes he’s in episodes 3 and 6. James McAvoy plays the lead, Richard.
Give it a listen here:

one review says on episode 3:
Well there’s “Jaguar in a Cello”, there’s silky smooth, chocolate dipped vocals and then there is the voice Benedict Cumberbatch is using as the Angel Islington.Frankly it’s bordering ever so slightly on the obscene – aural pornography of the highest calibre. Soft, rich, deep and so low that I could actually feel my headphones vibrate in time with his purred rumblings. It’s like the producers got a lion, fed it on a diet of whiskey and cigarettes for years and then got it to narrate the part while it was feeling in a particularly mellow mood.

danielle: You know that he’s an actor, right, and he plays roles that may have absolutely nothing to do with his real personality? Now take cold shower.

Alas, fans of poetry-reciting British actors take to saying “alas”.
