From the first “R.R.” in fantasy epics

Opens December 13.
It’s been 12 years since The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring opened in cinemas. Nine of us had arranged to watch the first screening on the first day. We remember the general intake of breath when Legolas first appeared— “Sino yan?” “Nicholas daw, Nicholas.” And sniggering at the people who cried when Gandalf fell with the Balrog. And still crying over Boromir even if we knew that was coming.
A Song of Ice and Fire is a direct descendant of The Lord of the Rings, with plenty of sex, moral dilemmas, and characters who are neither completely good nor completely evil.
We know exactly how Sherlock fans will react to the last image in the trailer: “Uuuyyyyyy Watson meets Holmes.”

my first reaction was actually, he should have let him sleeeep! too bad there was no cumbervoice at all, guess Pater Jackson was saving the best bits for the latter part. So much Legolas and that new character invention Tauriel, hmm…Lee Pace looking good. The dwarves in the barrels was a treat but of course I’m all excited about the dragon- too CGI though hope they made him look more real you know- mas maganda pa yung dragon sa shrek, game of thrones and how to find your dragon. But then that was just a tease so maybe, well see more fully formed dragon and hear the voice next time.
I remembered when the first LOTR hit the screens, I was with a group of friends who never even bothered flipping on the books.Aside from all the whispered questions they kept pestering me during the movie, all the conversations that followed after watching- the names were converted to their filipino equivalent. They keep calling Legolas as Nicolas, Gandalf became Gandam (wait, i think its Japanese?), Aragorn as Aragon, Frodo was Fredo. Merry and pippin became Mary and Poppins, Rivendale became Riverside, and they keep calling the hobbits unano. An orc arrow would have been handy that time.
And darn it Sean Bean just cant catch a break! Apparently he dies in every film he’s in in every which way imaginable that there’s a website called “save Sean Bean campaign” in 2012 haha. there’s a funny meme of him as boromir and ned stark somewhere.

Lee Pace’s eyebrows should have top billing on this.
@danielle I think I know you, but then I hang out with a lot of people who are in love Benedict Cumberbatch.
