   nag-aalinlangan din akong magsabi ng congratulations at magbunyi para kay m’jz, maski ang thenewyorker ay paborito kong magasin (pinakamatinding fact-checking sa lahat) at napakaganda ng pagkakalatag ng artikel sa ating resilience. bakit alinlangan? mukha kasing ito ang pinaka-nakakaiyak na bagyong tumama sa atin, dahil:
   –sa isolation ng mga naapektuhan. mga taong nasa maliliit na baryo sa gitna ng isang maliit na isla! di ko maimadyin ang helplessness kung ako ang nanduon.
   –sa mga eksena ng taong hinahananap ang mga kaanak nila at bigla na lang nakikita na nakahandusay sa daan o nakabaon sa mga nagsipagbagsakan na kahoy,
   –mga nanay na yakap ang nakabalot na patay nilang anak, at di pa mailibing
   –at sa lumalabas na incompetence na naman sa pagmamando ng relief effort natin, na di yata akma sa isang bansang paulit-ulit nang may ganito.
   (nakakabahala lalo tuloy–baka susunod na maibabalita na naman ay may mandudugas na naman ng mga donasyon.)
   gayunpaman, tama si jessica. nandyan man ang worries, para sa ating di naapektuhan parang otomatik na ang gagawin. kagagaling ko lang ng relief packing na inorganisa ng kumpanya kanina, at babalik na naman bukas. naipledge na rin ang kalahati ng sahod ngayong buwan (ikakaltas na lang sa dalawang akinse). pero sana naman magkaroon na ng natural na lider (si gordon?) sa sentro sa darating na mga araw. maraming magagaling na manedyer dyan sa korporeyt, pnoy, kung ayaw mo kay gordon. maraming kayang magdoneyt pati oras para iorganisa nang mahusay pati ang mga nagdadatingang banyaga. kung hindi, patuloy lang tayong hihiyain. nasa tacloban pa lang si anderson cooper. pupunta pa tiyak yan ng samar at busuanga!

   I wish my office would sacrifice its usually lavish Christmas party and donate the party money to the victims, because even if they manage to do some sort of donate-to-the-victims type of activity at the party, there would still be huge expenses for food, venue, etc. And I wish the super powerful nations of this planet would take climate change seriously!

   On a lighter note, so bongga that you wrote for the New Yorker, JD Salinger’s favorite publication. :D

   Knowing that I’m from the Philippines, my colleagues here in Istanbul have been asking about my family’s welfare. I never thought they could be so… caring.

   (Ayan, may natanggap na naman akong email asking about Haiyan, galing sa mga ex-colleagues na lumipat na sa ibang company..).

   I was just thinking last night that if each country had at least one Filipino in it, Haiyan’s impact to the Philippines would certainly have a human face representing it all over the world.

   I believe it has been said that even the quietest person can influence thousands within his/her lifetime. I think the kindness of Filipinos has been returned back to us by the world during this time of nationwide grief and rebuilding.
