The game is afoot! Let’s translate Sherlock Holmes.
We enjoy translating stories into Tagalog, and we love the BBC series Sherlock (The third series premieres in the UK on New Year’s Day), so why don’t we merge our interests and translate the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle into Tagalog?
Can it be done? How do you say “Elementary, my dear Watson” in Tagalog?
Holmes never says “Elementary, my dear Watson”. Sometimes he says “Elementary” and sometimes, “my dear Watson”, but never in a single phrase. It’s like “He’s dead, Jim”, a line widely attributed to Dr. Leonard “Bones” McCoy in classic Star Trek, which Bones never utters.
So how do you say “Elementary”? Or “deduction”?
“The game is afoot?”
Uro suggests: 1. Binalasa na ang mga baraha. 2. Ikinamada na ang mga pitsa. 3. Inihagis na ang bola. 4. Umiinog na ang sinanduyong.
How about: Tara!
The Sherlock Holmes Translation Team. What do you think? Would you like to join us? The 24 short stories are here; which one do you want to work on? Would you prefer to do one of the novels? Could you finish it in a month or do you need more time? Tell us.

I have to read Alan Moore’s first volume of LOEG (he wrote a couple of Sherlock Holmes references) to get the Victorian feel (I don’t have cable), Your Grace. I may delve on the last part, chapter 24, Your Grace.

Would love to do this. After I submit my outline, though. Hope I’ll find the time.
Found this and wanted to share: The Best Sherlock Holmes Stories – according to the author. (http://www.sherlock-holmes.co.uk/library/doyle.html)

Hi. I would like to volunteer and work on “The Adventure of the Yellow Face”. I can finish it before the month ends.

For the expression “Elementary” I would choose to create words using the root word “salik” ; which could be translated to : component, ingredient, factor, element. The same root word of “saliksikan” and “pananaliksik”. The (invented)word “kasaliksikan” would be my entry. :P
E.g. From A Case of Identity
“All this is amusing, though rather elementary, but I must go back to business, Watson. Would you mind reading me the advertised description of Mr. Hosmer Angel?”
“Ang lahat ng ito’y katuwa-tuwa, bagama’t mga kasaliksikan kung iisipin. Ngunit mabalik tayo sa ating gawain, Watson. Maaaring bang pakibasa ang pagkakakilanlan ni G. Hosmer Angel sa anunsyo?”
:D

@ the boomerang kid:
Thank you. I feel I may fail to give Sherlock justice at all. Muchas gracias!
