The new Ghostbusters survives the sliming
Why are people furious over the very concept of a Ghostbusters movie starring women? Since the Ghostbusters remake was announced there has been a concerted campaign to make the project fail. What, only guys can design and aim proton packs? Ghostbusters starring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones is amiable, amusing, and hilarious in parts. The funniest bits are in direct response to the irrational online hatred: Kristen Wiig reading a comment on YouTube (Never do that), Bill Murray (the original cast all have cameos, inc Annie Potts at the hotel reception and Sigourney Weaver in the end credits) wondering why women would want to catch ghosts, and best of all, Chris Hemsworth as Kevin the receptionist. Because men aren’t the only people who can be scientists, and women aren’t the only people who can be hot and brainless.

I sooo enjoyed this movie! Really hoping there aren’t too many humorless idiots to make this a flop. At least, not in the PH.

100% agree. While not perfect, this was such an enjoyable and entertaining movie that I already watched twice. Kate McKinnon / Holtzmann is my favorite and the breakout star, follower by Leslie Jones / Tolan.
To answer your question, it’s simply: misogyny. It’s the only explanation for comments by folks who started ranting last year when the cast was first announced and who’d never even seen the film. It’s the only explanation for comments like, “Bitches can’t fight no ghosts,” or “Girls can’t be funny,” or “Female scientists? Yeah, right.” (Marie Curie should haunt the guy who posted that comment.) Seriously, avod YouTube comment sections on the trailers.
The great thing is that the movie has been getting fairly good reviews. I’m also a bit sad they didn’t get to have Rick Moranis cameo (since they managed to get Sigourney in), but at least they managed to stick a Harold Ramis bust in there.
Here’s hoping the sequel happens.

Watched it but still, I say it’s just an average movie. Yes, I did smile four or five times, but the humor overall ranged from palpable to smirk for my taste (personally, Silverman should be cast for more PC outrage). Again, neither bad nor great, just average for me.
Though, I was having fun whenever Charles “Tywin Lannister” Dance appeared briefly there.
But still, comparison between the old and this one is inevitable.

Grabe I don’t like Hemsworth that much but I thought he was sexy while dancing like a dork in the end credits!
