How feral cats say thanks
Saffy is not the feral cat in the title. She’s here because she won’t allow photos of the outdoor ampon.
Apart from the three cats we live with (Koosi, Saffy and Mat), there are three, sometimes four white-and-orange feral cats (Janko, Meriadoc, Peregrin and Gimli) who turn up at our door during mealtimes. We give them leftovers and kibble, which they seem to appreciate. Periodically they show their appreciation by bringing us gifts. For instance yesterday afternoon as we were stepping out of the house there was a fat rat on the welcome mat, dead. Disgusting, but this is how stray cats express comradeship (Have a snack on us!). We can’t scold them; they might think we’re demanding a bigger rat.

Very true. Dead mice on the driveway, dead bird on the terrace.
I do feel sorry for the shrews who patrol the garden. They eat worms, crickets and apart from the humongous spiders in the house, are the only ones who prey on cockroaches. I used to feed them left over rice when I was I kid.
If you happen to see one of these:

please don’t smack/kill it. Its not a rat. If your cage-trapping for rats, one way to determine if it’s a shrew is by their incessant loud squeaks.

Is there some sort of Taga-Loob VS Taga-Labas or ‘sampig ka lang’ dramedy going on?
My fave Brit writer’s cat was alternately affectionate and furious with him when he got a dog. And the house was effectively divided between Downstairs and Upstairs.

My cat, The Prince, ushers in my mornings with a fresh pile of cat vomit on the faux-leather sofa. It’s usually half digested cat pellets swimming in cat stomach acid and then some hair. I’m not complaining, because someone else cleans up after him. A little variety would be nice, though, for a change.
Clearly, my cat, The Prince, has a warped sense of gratitude. I think he got that from my side of the family.
Muahness from Pasig Cirehhh!
