No wonder their pets are bored.
The Chicago Tribune, quoting Veterinary Pet Insurance, says the most popular name for cats and dogs in the US for the fifth year running is. . .Max. The top ten names for cats are Max, Chloe, Lucy, Tigger, Tiger, Smokey, Oliver, Bella, Sophie, and Princess. For dogs: Max, Molly, Buddy, Bella, Lucy, Maggie, Daisy, Jake, Bailey, and Rocky.
Bo-ring, dull, blah. Where’s the imagination? Where’s the majesty? A cat needs a grand name like Koosalagoopagoop Galadriel Ivanisevic-O’Brien. A friend of mine called his dog Torquemada, because no one expects the Spanish Inquisition. Unfortunately his mom couldn’t pronounce Torquemada, so she took to calling him Turkey.

My friend has a cat named Lord Ashley. He is the fattest, laziest, most obnoxious cat i’ve ever met. I can easily picture him plotting world domination.

Our family had several dogs in the past, always named either Bambi, Douglas or Marsha. Incidentally, the Bambi’s always were the smartest ones. When I’m in college, the name Bruno came in then Hachi, when I started working.

some cebuanos call their dogs, PAAKA (paak means bite. so paaka is a command to bite), PAGHUTA (paghut means bark. paghuta is a command to bark), and GUKURA or GUKDA (gukod is to run after something). and their cats, KAWRASA (kawras is to scratch). imagine what these words would do to the hapless pedestrian or to the strangers at your gate or doorstep.
we had a dog we end up calling “NO NAME” because every time we were asked what’s the puppy’s name, our answer was always ‘it has no name yet”.
