Temporal anomaly
At the Senate hearing into the ZTE broadband deal, Senator Nene Pimentel asked this question: “Ano ba ang broadband? Can somebody explain this in layman’s terms?”

Maybe Sen. Pimentel can get together with his US Senate counterpart Ted Stevens to even figure out what the internet is all about. Talk about ignorance.

This is just to point out that Ted Stevens is a Republican, Episcopelian, Senior Senator from Alaska.
Nene Pimintel, of course, is currently a friend of Erap.
Go figure.

Pfsh! Senator Pimentel knows what broadband is. He asked the question for the sake of those watching on TV who dont. (The hearings were shown live on the government station channel 4.)

Oh, and btw, on the ‘series of tubes’ thing: it’s a metaphor. The senator basically was painting a picture for his constituents. Geeks, especially alpha geeks, feel superior over non-geeks, which sometimes makes them anti-social. It was the geeks who blasted the senator for his metaphor. They wanted only the technical definition. They dont get metaphor at all. :-D

even my 90-something year old lola knows how to boot a computer and go to skype video and chat with my aunts in the US.
she got this nigerian scam email a few years ago with loi estrada’s name on it.
lola: alam mo ba kung sino nagemail sa akin at bibigyan daw niya ako ng pera?
me: sino?
lola: si loi estrada!
me: lola scam yan huwag ka maniniwala sa mga ganyang emails
lola: siyempre naman. sinong maniniwala na si loi ang nagemail e baka hindi marunong magcomputer yun!

Here in Davao there was a resolution submitted for consultation by the Sangguniang Panglungsod banning WiFi because it proliferates pornography. The resolution was supposedly authored by an ageing councilor.

@#7 jeg: AGREE! This is the most likely reason.
Don’t be an age-ist. Discrimination against old people. Tama ba iha?

i tried watching the news thru TFC.
i think one of my arteries burst (again!)
i can’t stand it when they (politicians) started talking in english and they can’t even express themselves.
why would they want a broadband in the first place?

As a line in a new action fantaserye goes, “NILUSOB NA NG MGA KUUMA (‘kumag’, to serve our purposes) ANG PLANETANG EARTH!!!”.
Well, most of them landed on the senate.
