Vietnam adopts the homeless Azkals
Vietnam has graciously offered to host the “home” game of the Philippine national football team, as the local venues have not been deemed fit for the AFF Suzuki Cup semifinal against Indonesia. Interesting development in an episode that has been lacking in graciousness.
Homeless Azkals mired in politics on eve of semis
Flush from its best overseas showing in years, the Philippine football team didn’t use its first press conference back home to thank its fans for the sudden groundswell of support.
Instead, the players dissed their mother organization, the Philippine Football Federation. They complained about their lack of training facilities. They talked about being insulted. Then they denied that their “laundry list of grievances” was a laundry list of grievances. . .
Thanks to brewhuh23 for the alert. brewhuh23 heads our campaign for Neil Etheridge to be a Jock With A Book.

I love how this story has made waves even on the ontd_football livejournal community: http://community.livejournal.com/ontd_football/3077274.html
One of the livejournal users who commented on that post (bibijean) claims to work for the PFF. Interesting.

I’m in no position to take sides here, but my instinct says the Azkals are telling the truth.

Oh wow. I never thought anything from here would end up on any variant of ONTD.

Here is another interesting article about the football hosting brouhahaa. Martinez talaga! Tsk! Tsk! All these stories of corruption makes me want to cry. I’m glad that the Volcanoes don’t have to deal with this kind of c**p.

I hope the Azkals will do well against Indonesia. **anti-jinx! anti-jinx!**
I’m with brewhuh23 for adding Neil Etheridge to our list of Jock with a Book campaign.
(Pwede din po ba ang Younghusband brothers?)

Mari Martinez threatened a revamp will happen after the Suzuki Cup, according to Quinito Henson’s column the other day. Shame on you, Mari!

#4 Kaye — It’s really sad no?
About Neil, we can do this! If I can go through an entire Cormac McCarthy book (yes it took me 5 years, but still I finished it), this is all possible :) I believe hehe.

#5 Brewhuh23 – I believe! I believe! Amen!
To be honest, “The Road” was the first and so far only McCarthy book that I’ve read, but the moment I read the first sentence of the book, I knew I was hooked.
I’ve got a backlog of over a dozen books, and that doesn’t even include technical/trade titles, like “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to PHP4,” “The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Java Programming,” and “JavaScript for Dummies.”

Kaye: Dali, magkita na kayo at uuwi yan sa Amerika ngayong Pasko.

Juice ko, Miss Jessica! Totoo ba ito? You want me to make pakita to him?

December 14th, 2010 at 18:25
Hmm, very Nabokov.
December 14th, 2010 at 18:32
Ms JZ: OK, magiging consistent na ako. Panalo ang Hon! Brewhuh likes it, and it rhymes with Jon.
(I assume at this point, my “Hon” is already cringing. Haha!)
Brewhuh: One of the biggest reasons that I don’t watch TV is Willie. Seriously, I think that there is a certain part of our culture that is totally effed up because of him. So– no Papi! It’s Hon!
Now back to regular programming para hindi OT: Good luck to Azkals and the future of Philippine football. Where did all the money from FIFA go?
December 14th, 2010 at 18:42
#11 Jessica — Hahahaha, oo nga no!
December 15th, 2010 at 00:24
Brewhuh– It shouldn’t be difficult for me to get used to calling Jon, Hon, haha! It’s what it has to take him to get used to being addressed as such that worries me :( Baka ma-traumatize si Hon.
