You’re forgetting Leonardo.
There is a great performance from 2010 that has been overlooked in many year-end lists.
Leonardo DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s Shutter Island. (I think the listmakers’ memories got extracted.)
It is actually two (even three) performances in a single role, a feat so finely-calibrated that it only becomes apparent on hindsight (“Why did his delivery seem artificial. . .oh.”) or on second viewing. Apart from the degree of difficulty there is the pure emotional wallop of his acting. This is the fulfillment of the promise of that kid who faced down Robert De Niro in This Boy’s Life. Good show, Leo.

Yes. How sad. And they’re forgetting the rest of the movie too. It is one of the best of 2010.

Leonardo di Caprio is really an excellent actor. It’s unfortunate that the masses of his fans only highlight his pretty-boy performances in films like “Titanic,” “Catch Me If You Can,” and “Romeo + Juliet.”
But his acting chops have always been in evidence even at a young age — apart from the aforementioned “This Boy’s Life” with Robert de Niro, there is also “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape” with Johnny Depp, the somewhat shocking “Total Eclipse,” and “The Basketball Diaries” (which I have not seen but has been well rated).
His latest outings have been fine and mature performances — “Blood Diamond,” “The Departed,” and of course “Inception.” But I am hoping that he can take on more roles in the future that require less intensity and furrowed eyebrows, and more quiet internal underplaying that he more frequently demonstrated in his youth.

I agree. They even snobbed him on Revolutionary Road. I think that was one of his best performances. The role fits him like a T. Well, I guess it all boils down to marketing. The studio is not Oscar-whoring him unlike what is being done by Firth, Franco and the rest of the supposed frontrunners. Agree on the film too. Though derided by some, I think it was a decent attempt of a master at a psychological-thriller genre. For what is worth, Leo should be given a nod, even taking into consideration Inception.

this movie elevated Leo’s acting career status. It was creepy but heart-breaking. it is one of the best movies of 2010 including inception which gave me a headache.
