Girls just wanna survive flight delays
Watch Cyndi Lauper’s Impromptu Airport Performance of Girls Just Wanna Have Fun
Girls just wanna have fun—and so do stranded airline passengers. So to ease tempers over delays and cancellations at the Buenos Aires airport on Friday, the 80s icon grabbed a microphone and treated passengers to an impromptu rendition of her greatest hit.
The 57-year old singer was leaving Argentina after performing several concerts there as part of her world tour. Draped in a black headscarf and wearing oversized sunglasses indoors, she clearly wanted to remain incognito. But giving the crowd something to smile about thrust her into the dimly-lit airport spotlight.
* * * * *
1. She sounds great!
2. Please could she be courtside at Wimbledon during rain delays? If we hear Cliff Richard doing Summer Holiday one more time we may run amok.
3. We have to go to Argentina. Patagonia!
One of our regular topics: Cyndi Lauper and Madonna emerged at about the same time. Cyndi is the better singer but Madonna became the bigger star. Why? Discuss.

I posted this on my Twitter account yesterday hehe. She sounds really really good, like it was 1983 all over again :D
Can she perform her greatest hits here in Manila, like an intimitate show of sorts? I would definitely go hihihi :D

Cyndi’s the better songwriter, too. (Time After Time, True Colors)
Love them both just the same. They are equal in my book.

one of my favorite songs of all time is time after time. why madonna is a bigger star, because being a star in the music industry isn’t just about musical talent..and for that, madonna has the business skills..both are good, in their own ways..

maybe madonna was hungrier?
bitin ang performance!

Sex appeal, a daring sense of fashion, and a passion for re-invention makes one the better gay icon. This is why, I think, Ms Ciccone’s the bigger star. She’s got the gay revolution behind her.

Music is a business, not just an art. In that sense, Madonna knows the business side very well. The packaging, the promotion, keeping people’s interest, constantly evolving to suit people’s tastes (?), and she has a deeper understanding of people and how they view and relate to fame… She would be an excellent speaker on the zeitgeist.
Cyndi Lauper’s songs are better in my book. Even her later work (like I Drove All Night) are more memorable for the right reasons, as opposed to Madonna’s list which includes such gems (?) as “Dress You Up”.

someone should do a comprehensive thesis on that.
when i was growing up, i remember the last popular song i heard from Ms Cindy Lauper was True Colors and then she disappeared from MTV.
but Madonna still came out with Like a Prayer, Vogue, Sex and she even became Evita —
Madonna knew she was a mediocre singer and a mediocre dancer & maybe her being aware of these she compensated by having tons of drive.
she also originally wanted to be an actress/comedian ala carole lombard but also knew she cant act.
maybe thats why most of her early songs & maybe her entire career was about her mocking herself, the celebrity world, the music industry, religion, etc.
and maybethats why she also calls herself an artist.
and maybe thats why shes still alive – relative to Whitney Houston.

IMO, Madonna is smart on how she marketed herself, her image, she made herself a brand while Cyndi fell short on that area.
I read somewhere that in the We are the world song, the late Michael Jackson invited both Madonna and Cyndi to sing. When Madonna learned that Cyndi was a part of it, she begged off from participating. Nagtaray ang lola mo. The Madonna-Cyndi “rivalry” was pretty stiff that even the King of Pop wasn’t able to do anything.

Cindy sings better, but Madonna is a star.

This is a Familiar rivalry. And although I wasn’t born early enough to catch their turn on the spotlight, I had Britney and Christina Aguilera growing up. Although Christina has the better musicality, Britney’s large fan base me her the better performer. And I think that’s what happened between Cindy and Madonna too. More or less.

Madonna had the bigger dream.
