Being normal is vastly overrated.

X-Men: First Class

Normal people don’t like me. I’d say the feeling is mutual, but I can’t bear the thought of having anything in common with them.

My problem with normal people isn’t their absence of a personality, it’s their insistence that everyone must be like them.

I like humanity as a concept, it’s individuals I have issues with. Mainly the fact that they’re not real individuals.

Genocide is always perpetrated by normal people who can’t stand the idea of anyone being different. Why do they hate those who are different? Because by their mere existence they expose “normal” as “boring”.

The normal are desperate to be regarded as “unconventional”. It’s the secret of marketing and advertising.

Be happy, my freaks. You drive evolution.

At Dongdaemun in Seoul the markets are like Extreme Divisoria, only clean, organized, specialized. There are shops that sell nothing but neckties, shops that do only hats, and shops that have only eyeglass frames as far as the eye can see.

Korea, where the streets have no English

Ansan metro station

If your mother tongue is English you have certain expectations. You assume that when you travel you can make yourself understood. Surely there is always someone out there who can translate for us. Maybe if we spoke louder and more slowly?

Dash that expectation: you’re in Korea. There are signs written in English, but spoken English is fairly rare. (To the benefit of our economy: Korean students flock to the Philippines to learn the language.) Even in a modern and efficient city like Ansan, home of the vast Hanyang University campus, you will need your skills at pantomime. . .
