Sherlock Holmes 2 is so gay it’s straight
Jude Law and Robert Downey Jr are back as the bickering partners Watson and Holmes in Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows.
Between Holmes’s hissy fits over Watson’s impending marriage, his sabotaging the honeymoon, his cross-dressing, his brother calling him “Sherly”, the constant bickering between the ex-flatmates and the open reference to their relationship, Guy Ritchie makes it unnecessary for us to point out the homoerotic elements in Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows (Although we just did). We don’t even have to look for the subtext, it’s the text.
Like all Guy Ritchie flicks this is too busy and there’s too much of that slow-motion-alternating-with-speeded-up stuff. We enjoyed it anyway, but we’ll watch anything with Robert Downey Jr in it and he’s been in some awful movies.
Plus you know what we put ourselves through lately. It was worth it because every time we’re faced with difficulty we can tell ourselves that if we endured that we can endure anything.
Besides, it’s supposed to be more fun here. Are you having fun yet?

My friends in the Pinoy Sherlock fandom call this movie “Becki Love: Laro sa Dilim,” and “Sherlock Gay: A Gay of Gays.” Haven’t seen it though.
Maybe it’s in the source material, or how people reads the source material. The amazing BBC Sherlock (with Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman) makes us tumblr users crazy for the Sherlock/John pairing – even when Adler and John’s various girlfriends are already introduced.

@amypond: I ? you for two reasons:
1) You brought up BBC’s Sherlock, which I think is so much better than the RDJr films (as much as I love RDJr).
2) Amy. Pond. — Just the best Doctor Who companion ever. Karen Gillan is so beautiful I can stare at her for days.
Watching this film tonight.

glad amypond mentioned the BBC Sherlock series. once you get past the heresy of it being set in the modern day, it’s much truer in spirit to the ACD canon than the ritchie holmes. the writing is so much richer and every aspect of the production — from casting to set design, music to costuming — is so much more satisfying.

I do not mean to condescend, but you are my lifesaver. I have spent the whole afternoon reading your blog and the Emotional Weather Report online I almost forgot I’m medically sad. Please live forever.

I’m a big fan of BBC’s Sherlock and Doctor Who as well. All hail Steven Moffat :)

Ooooh, BBC’s Sherlock. Watch the first episode of Series 1 (especially the scene in the coffee shop where John tells Sherlock that he has no problem sharing an apartment with him even if he’s not straight) and tell me if there isn’t any “subtext” in there. Also, do NOT even get me started on the guy they chose to play Moriarty.
All in all, an amazing series.
@amypond: “Sherlock Gay: A Gay of Gays.” Hahahahaha!

have you all seen the latest episodes in bbc sherlock S2, a scandal in belgravia and the hound of baskerville? so much better than the films. next week they’re airing reichenbach — and God knows when, or if, they’ll make S3. i don’t think my heart can handle it.

@everyone: Sorry I can’t stop talking about BBC Sherlock; I’ve been recommending it to people so they can catch up on series 2. I agree with everything you guys said! One of the best series I’ve seen so far, and it reminds me of the Sherlock Holmes I’ve read (which I didn’t see in RDJ, sorry).
Series 2! I have a girl-crush on their Irene Adler! And more of that “are they/aren’t they” scenes in Hound! I love how they developed the relationship between Sherlock and John (and the landlady) this season. I’m bracing myself for Reichenbach… and Moriarty. Why should it have only 3 episodes per series?
@lastdodobird and miss_o: Mutual fans club! I’m fairly new to Doctor Who, but I want to be the Ponds when I grow up (when it happens). And I love what Moffat/Jackson/Spielberg did to Tintin – it was the Indiana Jones sequel we never had.

I love BBC Sherlock, but felt a little conflicted about A Scandal In Belgravia. It was brilliant and the British Irene definitely trumps Rachel McAdams-Irene, but some parts of it felt a little strange. I AM ____ LOCKED? That last scene? Facepalm all the way.
So I’m happier with the Hound of Baskerville. Russell Tovey was a plus.
Oh, and another one for subtext–Moriarty carved “Sherlock” all over his cell.
