Are we sure the Taylor Kitsch airport incident happened in Manila? (Updated)
Not that we’re keen to defend the virtue of airport officials, but then he mentioned that the immigration staff were smoking. NAIA may be hideous and congested but we’ve not noticed anyone smoking in the immigration queues.
Second question: Kickass and John Carter were in town and we had no idea? Oy, our radar has failed us. So we consulted Google and found that Savages, the Oliver Stone movie, was filmed in Indonesia. Could Kitsch be mistaken about the location of the incident? Jet lag?
Of course it could’ve happened here but before you hang your head in shame at what the world thinks of us (They don’t), verify.
The report in the ABS-CBN news site is based on the same Letterman interview but there has been no independent verification. Who’s got a lead? Whose PR disaster: the Philippines’s, or Mr Kitsch’s (He’s got a movie opening here soon)?
Thanks to brewhuh for the alert.
0030. ABS-CBN has unpublished the report on its website.
It appears that Kitsch was not in the Philippines.

I wouldn’t be completely surprised if this happened in Indonesia. The original terminals for Soekarno-Hatta (in Jakarta) practically smell like kretek; it’s not exactly an airport that you would want to “hang out” in when your plane’s been delayed for more than six hours. At least the Denpasar airport in Bali (closest international airport to the shooting location in Nusa Tenggara) is relatively visitor-friendly.
…And surprise! ABS-CBN actually pulled the story to acknowledge the Indonesia shoot! http://bit.ly/wJCvhB

Sounds more like immigration officers of Indonesia. Had similar experience. Trying to scare you into giving $100 to allow you to enter Indonesia. Ours are more savy and not as blatant. And ours should be familiar with Oliver Stone and Taylor Kitsch. And some Pinoys in the aiport would be able to recognize even a B /C list Hollywood star.

Smoking, oscillating fans, computers not working, customs person not cozying up to a white man? That can’t be here.

To be fair, it was Letterman who said “in the Philippines.” Only thing is that Kitsch did not bother to correct him. Perhaps, “all brown men look the same?” Or was he into something wicked he did not know where he was?
