Melodrama Kings: DinLoyd
Dindo Fernando (left) was an actor who starred in many highly-regarded films in the 80s, including Langis At Tubig, Gaano Kadalas Ang Minsan and Nagalit Ang Buwan Sa Haba Ng Gabi. John Lloyd Cruz (right) is the star of many blockbuster romcoms and melodramas.

After we posted this photo we got a note from Tita Adjette, Budjette’s mom. “It had never crossed my mind who John Lloyd looks like, but every time I saw him on TV he sort of nagged my memory about someone I used to know. I just couldn’t pinpoint who. Thank you for jogging my memory because now I know who he reminds me of: my very good friend Dindo Fernando!
“Flordeluna was the brainchild of my late husband, Buddy Tan.”
We did not know that! So the major characters of the Danny Zialcita movie Nagalit Ang Buwan Sa Haba Ng Gabi—Dindo, Laurice Guillen and Janice de Belen—were the cast of Flordeluna.

My memories of Dindo Fernando will always be associated with all the charming adulterers he played on film, especially as the original “asawa ko na asawa mo na asawa ng bayan” in Nagalit ang Buwan sa Haba ng Gabi. That scene where he tries to entice Gloria Diaz on a date “sa lugar na tahimik at malamig” is pretty much a classic – wonder if John Lloyd could ever pull that off?
And now that I think of it, I wonder how things would have been much different if it had been John Lloyd Cruz instead of Derek Ramsay in No Other Woman. (Discuss.)

the first and only movie i saw of john lloyd cruz was the one with the rain dance (and Sarah Geronimo). back then i thought he was like fpj, what with the hands in his pockets stance, slightly hunched back and serious face.
in other news, look at this: Robotic cheetah ‘breaks speed record for legged robots’
a quote from the article: “The biggest concern about this is that no artificial intelligence system can distinguish between civilians and enemy combatants…” i took out the remainder of the sentence that would not make this statement so heart-stopping. =)

Wow, I never did realize the resemblance to Dindo Fernando until I saw these pics side by side…

Dindo was the perfect leading man of the kadramahang 80s. Not too handsome but with enough ‘oomph’ to make one swoon everytime he’d come out in tight swimwear for the obligatory beach scene. Sensitive without losing all the macho. Hay, sayang talaga! John Lloyd, I think, approximates what Dindo was during his time. I’d watch ‘No Other Woman’ had John Lloyd played the Derek part.

In my “Flordeluna” days, Dindo Fernando was Col Leo Alicante. The husband of Tita Jo, the son-in-law of Senyora Agueda, the step-dad of Wilma. Of course, the papa of Reneboy and Flordeluna Alicante.

#5 jules — YES!!! My goodness, Flordeluna!
I remembered, I think it was RPN-9’s anniversary special, they made a “switch” of characters. John Puruntong of John & Marsha became Col.Alicante and the good colonel became Marsha’s better half. It was hilarious?! Dolphy didn’t know what to do with all that drama & confrontation! And dear ol’ Dindo looked really funny in puruntong shorts hahaha!
I miss the 80s :(
