Oh Roger, you’re not even trying anymore.
We get it, you’re coasting. You can beat anyone below the top two just by showing up. But for Djokovic and Nadal you have to actually be there, occupying your body, you know?
The French want to believe he’s 50% Swiss, 50% French. Well there is no “French” gene or “Swiss” gene or “Filipino” gene you can isolate as proof of whatever-ness. In case you’re in a mixy-matchy mood.

This is what I expect from him nowadays. Followed Jesus Fed’s matches closely, and it’s a miracle that he even made the semifinals. His timing on his serve and forehand was off the entire tournament. He’s lucky he faced Del Potro instead of Berdych.
It’s impressive that Roger’s still consistently reaching slam semifinals and finals at his age, but I want another slam. Nadull is getting dangerously close to his record and I can’t deal with that.
The faster-playing slams are next. Are we finally going to get one?

He seems to be in a state of suspended animation where he does just enough to get by. In the Del Potpot match you could see the moment where he wakes up and notices he’s two sets down.
We suspect that Roger has gotten way too calm. He needs to get back some of the lunatic rage of his early pro years, when he was matching Marat Safin’s foul temper.
Federer-Safin: still our favorite rivalry that never came to be. We’ll take the 2005 Australian Open semifinal over any Federer-Nadull five-setter. Endurance is one thing, but shot-making: that’s Tennis.
