Chris Marker, 1921-2012
The filmmaker Chris Marker has died at age 91. He made La Jetee and Sans Soleil, he loved cats, and he wrote our favorite film essay (on Vertigo).

What a profound and thorough essay on Vertigo — I should make time to watch it again soon. (Too bad that there isn’t a Criterion edition.)
