The winner of our Outlander LitWit Challenge is clemichka. Congratulations! Please email saffron.safin@gmail.com to claim your prize.
Do you love the time-travel fantasy series Outlander? How much? Enough to flex some writing muscle and produce a Claire Beauchamp-Jamie Fraser-Frank Randall story?
Win a set of the first four books in Diana Gabaldon’s Outlander series in our LitWit Challenge. Just write a short story of at least 500 words involving any or all of the major characters Claire the time traveller, her 20th century husband Frank, or her 18th century husband Jamie. Post your stories in Comments on or before noon on Sunday, 5 April 2015. We’re giving away two of these sets, each of them just slightly smaller than Jamie Fraser’s bicep.
Questions you may be asking:
What era should the story be set in? Any time period, including the distant future, as long as the characters are recognizably Claire, Jamie and Frank.
Can the story be R-rated? Yes, we will add warnings in case readers have to avert their eyes.
Does it have to be Claire and Jamie or Claire and Frank, or could it be Jamie and Frank? Knock yourself out.
Could it be Frank and Black Jack? If you can solve the grandfather paradox, knock yourself out.
Puedeng kami ni Jamie? Puede.
Lola T will help us judge the entries, so points will be awarded for kileg.
This LitWit Challenge is brought to you by our friends at National Bookstores.

When I arrived at Inverness, the streets were quiet and dark. But subtle sounds of activity could be heard from the houses. The night had settled. I had come quite a long way on foot, from a distance I wasn’t used to travelling without horses. But I didn’t feel tired when my senses were heightened.
I encountered some folks in my journey and I did my best to stay out of sight. I realized hours ago that this was not my time. And she was the first on my mind as this thought crossed me. I took a chance and decided to come to Inverness.
And this Inverness is definitely not the Inverness I knew.
A light shone from a window that I felt compelled to approach, so I did. And that was when I saw her.
Her back was turned. But it was clear to me, without any help from her reflection, that it was her. It was my Claire.
Her movements were carefree, not guarded like when we first met. This must be from *before*.
Should I call to her? Should I tell her? Should I present myself?
But footsteps approached, and as I turned, things faded to black.
—
I do not recall clearly how I was led to the stones of Craigh na Dun. Much less how I seemed to have travelled back in time. And I’d walked a long way to Inverness hoping to see Claire, when I’d reached the paved streets from Craigh na Dun and realized that I was somewhere else in the future.
Nevertheless, when I came to, I was more than halfway back to Craigh na Dun. It’d seemed that just a second ago, it was night, and I was observing Claire out her window. But now, I’m a long way back to the stones. Probably just a mile or so. It was midday. And the sun lit the green around me quite beautifully.
There was nothing for it. I had to go back to the stones. For they alone held the answers. I’m not quite sure how it works. I have no idea what day it is, nor what month. But maybe if I touch them, I can return to my Claire. *My* Claire. My sweet Claire.
For the Claire of this time is not mine.
Near the foot of the hill, I found some strange sort of metal wagon. I am not alone. But there was no one to be seen, so I went on.
As I approached, I saw a figure amongst the rocks. A tall lady in white. My heart quickened. And I started to hurry my way up.
She seemed to be crouched between the rocks. Her head bowed, looking at something on the ground. Suddenly, her hand reached and pressed on the stone—
“Claire!”
But it was too late. It was like I blinked, and she was just gone. When I reached the spot where she’d been, there was nothing to indicate her presence at all…but some flowers.
Without any thought, I touched the stone.
