We have green light! (updated)
The Good Ideas coffee is set for Saturday, 26 September 2009, 4-6pm at Whitespace (Hall A, next to Manila Contemporary) on 2314 Chino Roces Avenue (Pasong Tamo Extension), Makati City.
Our guest is Rep. Teddy Boy Locsin, who will listen to your pitches and tell you if they’re brilliant/workable or…not. (If you are very sensitive or easily offended, disinvite yourself.) The other guests will be announced when we have confirmation.
Coffee and cake will be served. Admission is free, but you have to post a Good Idea. Participants will be emailed invitations by 12 September (a long way off, but let’s plan early). To avoid chaos we’ll prepare a program.
I must emphasize that this is a forum, not some kind of club (I hate clubs). We will air our thoughts but we do not have to agree on anything. Our guests are not compelled to do as we say. We’re all individuals here. I wouldn’t want to belong to a club that would have me for a member.
Melo says we should hand out gift bags. All the participants will receive nerdy loot bags containing notebooks, pens, museum tickets, pocket protectors, stuff like that.
Here’s a basic good idea: Before you post a question asking, What do you mean by Good Idea? you could look at the previous posts which mention Good Idea. I can hear my late mother’s voice in my head saying, Look with your eyes and not with your mouth! Gamitin ang mata sa paghahanap, hindi ang bibig! Oh no, now I feel like stuffing dead birds, running a motel on a desolate highway and wearing drag. . .

Curious about the other guests. Hope we have a healthy mix of industries represented by movers, shakers, and doers. Let’s get the country back on track!

Sorry, we now delete praise for the Ted, if he thinks we’re sucking up to him he will make fun of me. As to getting country back on track: HAHAHAHA! You doom any undertaking by overselling it.

Good to know there’s at least one sensible person with the capability to start whatever becomes agreed upon that meeting. I do look forward to ideas will be considered “with merit and feasible within the next 3-5 years, and should be implemented RIGHT NOW”.
And as for the other guests, and I wonder how’d they react to this kind of setting. I do hope the participants be as vicious (though civilized) as possible when tearing down BS ideas. And how the discussion goes.
Again, have I already said I look forward to the results of this?

Knowing how most people here don’t even show up to take their book prizes, I wonder how you could even get them to come to this now seemingly intimidating event. LOL!

Very Groucho, but the “forum” is too regional and feels kind of elitist clique-y. What about the Non-Manila?
Anyway, good luck to you people out there. The country is all yours to make.
Let’s continue this divide.

Haha I once appeared at a student forum where I made a perfectly innocuous statement and someone ran out of the hall crying. People are fragile eh.
Hmmm. English is my first language. I went to St. Theresa’s, Philippine Science, UP. Oh and Yale, but that was a grant. I am Mac. My favorite movie this week is Whit Stillman’s Metropolitan. I go to the cinema and read books all the time. I watch ATP tour tennis, sometimes live. I look down on rich people. I like staying in hotels. Eeek! I am elitist!
True, much of my education was free and paid for by the state. Eeeek that’s even worse!

In short, KAKASA. Diyan magaling ang mga taga-UP. tagahanga man ni Groucho o ni Karl. Peace!

I do hope me and my sister Kim would be invited! Dech, please post your good idea NOW! IM currently on tour in Europe with my band THE OMELETTE FLIPPERS right now! NYAHAHAHA! yeah I flip omelettes for a living… and my contracts ends on th 24th of September so I think I will have enough to fly to Manila and join the forum. I do sort of represent the OFW’s and the small group farmers in Mindanao and the bibliophiles. HENCE PUBLIC LIBRARIES for everybody! My sister represents the cultured and educated people in the Visayas!

That’s a bit much. No need to change your schedule. If you live outside of Metro Manila, just record yourself pitching your Good Idea, send us the link or the dvd (I’ll post a mailing address later) and we’ll air it at the forum. That might work.

What?!!!! and miss our chance of meeting the Dominatrix and Teddy Boy, plus you do have to autograph our books before they turn really yellow. Besides my sister used to have a slight crush on Teddy Boy and she never missed a single Free Press in her college days. We do really appreciate a formal invitation. I promise I’ll be on my best behavior.

I think sometimes people just need a little rah-rah action to get them started, and expressing enthusiasm is not necessarily overselling.
I don’t know if the call for ideas has ended, but since you mentioned English as a first language–
Can we get over the nationalistic-Tagalog-Pilipino language shit already? The medium of instruction has been changed back and forwards and sideways, the public school kids have no hope of ever really speaking either English or Pilipino well. Why can’t we just teach them in English, and do that well, so they’ll at least speak what most employers will require anyway?

I’m rather ignorant but I have a few good ideas. Can even possible contribute from the process perspective.
I hope I get invited.

Hi Jessica. Kind of wandered in. What exactly is this Good Idea? When is the deadline and would I be eligible to join? I ask as TBL and I are related and I believe that would be a conflict of interest. Though I was thinking it would be cool just to sit in…
Metropolitan. I caught that on television years ago. I caught about half the movie but was entralled by it. It’s still on my Amazon wish list (Criterion Collection DVDs are really expensive). I like talky films. Have you seen Barcelona?
I have to hang out with you and Ricky more.

What kind of ideas? Political, economic, technological ideas?

…damn

I have been wrecking my brains out for good ideas but all I have are terrible ones. Although one idea I would like to pitch is to flog any people who are deliberately hurting stray cats (& dogs). My cat Max went outside one day and went home with a huge burn on the left side of his tummy. It was wet. From all accounts, it looked like someone threw hot water on him and hit his tummy. I abhor these creatures who call themselves human and hurt beautiful beings like my cat (>.<)

I think i have found a good one.
