Whatever and ever
My lovely friends took me to dinner last night at Benjarong at the Dusit Hotel. Excellent Thai restaurant, and there was no coup attempt on the premises. Some notes on that non-event:
1. If you’re launching a coup d’etat, make sure to check the weather report the day before.
2. My favorite part of the ANC coverage was towards the end, when the ringleaders had given up. Ces Drilon was in the 7th floor of The Pen, and she reported that Senator (You voted for him) Trillanes and General Lim (who if memory serves me right has been a major brain behind every coup attempt since the Aquino administration. . .and is still in a position to plot more!) were weeping…”hindi dahil sa sitwasyon kundi dahil sa tear gas” (not from the emotion of the situation but from the tear gas).
3. During his interview on ANC, the Press Secretary said “at this point in time” ten times. Jay-Lo counted. How Radio Veritas circa 1986.
4. Tina: “Trillanes: mutineer, senator, cookbook author, and wannabe glorious martyr.”
5. Another favorite moment: When the police arrived to serve the warrant of arrest, the way was barricaded so they just pressed the warrant against the glass.
6. The coup attempt was covered heavily on CNN and the BBC. Now we’re really going to be taken seriously.
7. Tinigil nila kasi ayaw da nilang dumanak ng dugo. Kung ayaw nilang dumanak ng dugo, bakit nila ginawa? Gago. (The coup plotters gave up because they said they didn’t want bloodshed. Duh, if they didn’t want bloodshed, they shouldn’t have started it. Idiots.)
8. Everyone says they’re ready to die for their country, but no one actually makes good on the threat. Come on, you promised.

Sorry for trying to post the Dalisay piece, Jessica. Guess it was a little too similar. =)
Anyways, yeah it’s just tragicomic of the highest level. They deserve to be thrown in jail with Arroyo! Well, how about that?! Dun na lang sila mag-presscon at sabunutan sa luob. That way, we can get on with our lives more peacefully and less dishonestly than before they all came on the scene to supposedly turn the tide.

Maybe hotels and other businesses will consider moving to ortigas and/or to eastwood? I hear the mayor there is not keen on making his city a playground for sociopaths.

Lesson: Never stage a siege anywhere near Christmas and on sweldo day. Everybody just wants to rush to the malls to shop. To Fr. Robert, the running priest: you should have just stayed in China. Anybody noticed how Ces Drilon snapped at that aging priest saying ‘Nasa’an ho ang suporta?, when no sympathizers were seen heading out to the Pen? Poor priest was forced to quip that they were on their way but were apprehended. Uhhhm, Father, kape ka muna.

Give the Trillanes some credit- Oakwood got him into the senate, right? Who knows where this episode will take him. And unlike most of our political leaders out there, he’s consistent in his loathing of that midget in Malacanang.

Anybody noticed this uniformed military guy wearing a long, light brown, almost blonde curly wig walking with Trillanes et al? During the first press con after arriving at the Pen, he is seen carrying a rifle(wearing a magdalo armband) and standing behind a seated Gen. Lim. He had that I-will-defend-to-the-death-his-right-to-say-it look.Me and my friends were laughing so hard we felt there was no need to get stoned.
Then it got us wondering; what’s up with that guy? What’s with the tranny shag? Was this an attempt to disguise himself? It was so funny. I just love the unscripted surreal humour that tragicomic affairs like these produce.

Damn, how dare you make fun of such a tragic incident? You must be out of your mind.

Trillanes et al miscalculated the anger of the Filipinos. We just aren’t angry enough for his coup to snowball. One can see the disappointment on his face during his presscon when the numbers didn’t turn up at all.
And you can’t really blame him for doing it at the Pen. If he did this in Payatas or Tondo the military will just spray them with bullets. At the Pen (and then at Oakwood) he and the other Magdalos are insulated by tourists. He knows even GMA’s not that stupid to do anything that would earn her the wrath of the UN.
To be honest, when I last stayed there at the Pen their rooms desperately needed a make over. Here’s their chance.

I think comment #8 (“…Come on, you promised.”) is in poor taste.

To onionista: I hope you are only being sarcastic. Otherwise, you don’t deserve your username.

Yes, they promised… but Miriam Defensor promised at some point, too (to jump off a helicopter or something). But what did she say after? “I LIED! Mwahahahahahahaha”. And GMA promised she would never run for presidency….and…and…and…she’s still our president nonetheless.
Well, if it wasn’t at the Pen and the media wasn’t there, i think, Trillianes won’t be here anymore. The military was so determined to wash him off. Besides, this is already the second time. Hello?
