He was scheduled to receive the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in November. He’s a fitting recipient of the award. I never really understood what standup humor was like until I moved to the US. Since then, I’ve seen and gotten to know what it’s like to have freedom of speech in it’s most natural environment. I wish one day, that kind of expression and intelligent level of discourse would be available to Filipinos as well.
Carlin is now up there with the best of them: Richard Pryor, Bill Hicks, and many of his other contemporaries. He will be missed.
