Our guests

Our panelists at the Good Ideas Forum on September 26 are Teddy Boy Locsin and Vince Perez.

Teddy Boy Locsin is the congressman from Makati. He hosts an AM radio talk show and should really get back on television. Ted was the publisher and editor-in-chief of TODAY, and before that, the Daily Globe and the Free Press. He was Press Secretary in the Cory Aquino administration, and speechwriter to President Aquino. Ted had a cat named Tommasso who was so fat and lazy he would not budge from his seat during earthquakes. Apart from his erudite and nasty essays on politics, Ted has written extensively on hair loss and bad smells.

Vince Perez is a conservationist and advocate of renewable energy. He runs Alternergy Partners, a renewable power company, and heads the energy advisory firm Merritt Partners. Vince is also the chair of WWF-Philippines. He was a general partner at Lazard Freres and is a former Secretary of Energy. Vince was part of the Subic Centennial crew which won the 2008 Rolex South China Sea Race. He describes his role on the boat as “ballast”. Though he once appeared in a series of energy conservation sketches, he is not to be confused with the actor Vahnsahnt Perez.

Both panelists have held important positions in the private and public sectors, giving them unique insights into the process of turning a concept into reality. They will listen to your ideas at the forum and make suggestions about the next steps. Coffee and doughnuts will be served. Photography is allowed. Blogging is encouraged.

I apologize for this site’s sudden mysterious disappearances. The webhost is working on it. I am told it is a domain name problem. Apparently other people want it. I know, I know, I know. You cannot possibly be more annoyed than I am.

Aristocrats

This is my philosophy of class, I only wish I’d said it.

Who said it? (Easy.)

You get no prize but the satisfaction of knowing you are right. Which is all we live on.

* * * * *

Conclusion: Being right is its own reward.

We have green light! (updated)

The Good Ideas coffee is set for Saturday, 26 September 2009, 4-6pm at Whitespace (Hall A, next to Manila Contemporary) on 2314 Chino Roces Avenue (Pasong Tamo Extension), Makati City.

Whitespace

Our guest is Rep. Teddy Boy Locsin, who will listen to your pitches and tell you if they’re brilliant/workable or…not. (If you are very sensitive or easily offended, disinvite yourself.) The other guests will be announced when we have confirmation.

Coffee and cake will be served. Admission is free, but you have to post a Good Idea. Participants will be emailed invitations by 12 September (a long way off, but let’s plan early). To avoid chaos we’ll prepare a program.

I must emphasize that this is a forum, not some kind of club (I hate clubs). We will air our thoughts but we do not have to agree on anything. Our guests are not compelled to do as we say. We’re all individuals here. I wouldn’t want to belong to a club that would have me for a member.

Melo says we should hand out gift bags. All the participants will receive nerdy loot bags containing notebooks, pens, museum tickets, pocket protectors, stuff like that.

Here’s a basic good idea: Before you post a question asking, What do you mean by Good Idea? you could look at the previous posts which mention Good Idea. I can hear my late mother’s voice in my head saying, Look with your eyes and not with your mouth! Gamitin ang mata sa paghahanap, hindi ang bibig! Oh no, now I feel like stuffing dead birds, running a motel on a desolate highway and wearing drag. . .

Get in the closet

Flea market, Bastille, 2006

Robin Tomas is clearing his closets. You’re all invited to a garage sale—clothes, accessories, houseware, paintings—on Wednesday, April 1 (this is not an April Fools’ joke) from 9am to 7pm at Apt 7A, Legaspi Parkview, 134 Legaspi Street, Legaspi Village, Makati. If you like dressing up as Imelda Marcos, maybe you can find the costumes from Tessie’s one-woman shows in the 80s.
