mimi

Our friend Steph the artist and certified cat lady makes T-shirts for people who love cats and people who are really cats.

The Meow shirts come in five designs (so far) based on Steph’s feline housemates, and are available in small, medium and large.

Each shirt costs Php500. For every Meow shirt sold, Steph will donate Php50 to CARA (Compassion and Responsibility to Animals), the excellent nonprofit organization which promotes animal welfare, including the spaying/neutering of pets and stray cats and dogs to improve their quality of life.

To order Meow shirts (We’ve ordered one of each!) email Steph Palallos at info@magicpoppet.com or magicpoppet@me.com. When you get your shirts, have yourself photographed in them and send us the photos.

This week in earrings

1. gypsy
Made by a little old lady selling needlepoint items outside an archaeological site in Turkey. They’re like embroidery that escaped the cloth.

2. ottoman
Bought these at the shop in front of the Sultanhani caravanserai along with a cookbook for Ige and an ornate fake dagger with faker gems on the pommel.

3. euromoda
At a mall in Nevsehir all the costume jewelry was on sale. This was the only pair I liked that wouldn’t rip off my earlobes.

Books for the ears

locket necklace

At EchoStore in Serendra we found these book locket necklaces by Junk Studio. They feature cover art from well-loved books (the publishers won’t mind, we hope).

open lockets

Each locket comes with a 24-inch chain. (The chain barely fits around our giant head. We’re talking Prometheus sizeā€”not the Engineer, the statue). Retail price: Php285 each.

earrings

We got a pair of book lockets and converted them into earrings. The metal is light enough so our earlobes don’t come off.

This week in earrings: Skulls and crosses

skulls

There must be something about us that reminds our friends of concussions, because they often give us skull-themed presents. (Left to right: Day of the Dead winged skull earrings from Mexico, a skull ring in semi-precious stones from Hong Kong, and skull earrings from an NGO called Dam Good Stuff.) Not to mention scarves.

skulls and crosses
The other day James Reyes made us this fabulous pair of earrings with tiny skulls and crosses. James, we really should open a store.

Xmas in a bag

The Fairfax bag, in ketchup.

Kipling, the Belgian bag brand, and World Vision have launched “A Brighter Christmas for A Brighter Tomorrow,” a program to raise funds for the education of children under the care of the advocacy group.

For every bag or piece of luggage purchased at Kipling stores in the Philippines from December 1 to 31, 2012, Kipling will donate Php500 to World Vision. (Up to 22 percent of the cost of the item, which is pretty generous.)

The Shopper Combo, in green

Kipling’s “Basic Elevated” holiday collection is now available at its stores.
