Metro filmfest sidelights
This was forwarded by Ilonggo friends. “Let me share with you this message from Senator Aquilino Pimentel, Jr: (edited from mobile telephone text language): “Sakal, Sakali, Saklolo film should rectify anti Visayan message. Lola to yaya: ‘Bakit pinapalaki ninyong Bisaya ang apo ko?’ Mom to yaya: Speak to kid in Tagalog ‘para Pinoy’. Visayans are not Filipinos?”
“Yes, in this movie the character of Juday says that it is necessary to speak Tagalog and not Bisaya “para maging Pinoy”. This is racist and discriminatory. Not fair to non-native speakers of Tagalog. The movie implies that the Bisaya are not Filipinos and Binisaya is not a language spoken by Filipinos.”
“The scrptwriter, director, producer and Juday should be disabused of their anti-Bisaya sentiments. The Bisaya – Cebuanos, Waray, Ilonggos, constitute a very large segment of the Filipino population and cannot be dismissed as not Pinoy.” From Decentralize Imperial Manila
Meanwhile, Budjette alerted us to Carlo J. Caparas’ wiki entry, uploaded 19 December. “He is the Great behind many Filipino superheroes and comic characters in comic books such as Panday, Bakekang,Totoy Bato. . .”
The Great behind?

This has got to be a parody, right?
“He has 8 children (Citadel,Krishna,Smith,Jan,Kay,CJ,Peach). From different women. Although that is a fact, he has a stable family now, composed of 2 of his youngest children- CJ,18, and Peach,14, along with his most beautiful counterpart, Miss Donna Villa(Born- Marian Patalinjug). She, according to well known and respected filipinos, is the most beautiful actress that has ever graced the silver screen…They believe that he is graced by different gods, because of his amizing talents…We praise him for being one of the greatest writers, biggest directors, best fathers, and being the most amazing survivors this world has come to know. He has turned down many Hollywood offers. What’s better than being in Hollywood and living the rich and famous lifestyles? That would be rejecting it.”
Hahaha! I haven’t had that much of a good laugh from an “encyclopedia entry” since, well, never before. What a wicked devil you are, whoever wrote that! Haha.

Anak ng… Now people are taking this The Whiny Filipino schtick against another comedy? A local one this time? Was there ever any doubt that Visayans are not Pinoys as Senator Pimentel seems to be suggesting? People really should lighten up.
And Totoy Bato! Yaaay!! That alone atones for all those massacre movies he made.

The entry was already edited.

Well, if the world’s finest artists are able to make Satan speak in Tagalog, I’d rather keep my Visayan bloodline purely non-Pinoy…unti I die. Amen. (See Philippine Reference Alert for more on the shameful alerts which by the way have all been associated with either Manila or the Tagalogs.)
Somebody kindly educate these filmmakers on the social responsibility of their craft. That is if the folly-fallen Finoy Film industry must rise above the ken as producers of slapdash cinematic ouvres.
Sigh. Pinoys. No wonder we’re not given decent attention by the world. We’re not gelled as one unique ethnic group.
Truly “amizing”!

My memory might just be really defective, but I think the dialogue from that scene has been misquoted.

I’m Visayan. A Boholano, actually, and I am very proud of it! I always love to imagine how Manila would be like should ALL Visayans go on strike. *evil laughter*
The Carlo J wiki entry made my eyes bleed and laugh my ass off!!! Hahahaha! On a more ironic note, there is a website better suited for people like Carlo J. This one is called: http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/Main_Page
Even the late Benazir Bhutto has an article in there: http://www.encyclopediadramatica.com/Benazir_Bhutto
Worth a peek, that place. ;)

What’s wrong with being Visayan?
We can speak your dialect, you can’t–how’s that?
“Mga butol man nang mga Tagalog”.
